The Eastern Band of Cherokee Modifies Water Emergency
The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians is reducing the Mandatory Water Use Restrictions to the residents and businesses that consume water from any of the Cherokee City Water Systems (including Cherokee, Rough Branch, 3200 Acre Tract and Snowbird).

Due to the precipitation that accumulated during the month of December, it has made it possible to reduce the current water use restrictions. Any customer or business that will need to withdraw a large quantity of water will still need to get prior approval from the Water and
Sewer Department. This will ensure there is a sufficient amount of water for this withdrawal,
and to prepare the Water Treatment Plant of any sudden water reductions in the system.

The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians would like to encourage all customers to please practice conservation measures due to future drought predictions. The following restrictions will apply:

  • Watering of grass will be allowed three days out of a 7 day period.
  • Washing paved surfaces such as streets, roads, sidewalks, driveways, garages,
parking areas, and patios will be allowed three days out of a 7 day period. An exception will be made when procedures are necessary for sanitation or public health purposes such as eating and drinking areas which may require more days.
  • Use of water for the operation of ornamental fountains, artificial waterfalls, misting machines and reflecting pools is allowed once approval has been granted by Water Department personnel. It is recommended that these systems install recycling equipment.
  • Use of water for washing or cleaning of all mobile equipment including automobiles, trucks, trailers, (private and commercial), and boats is allowed three
days out of a 7 day period. Commercial car washes will resume full operation.
  • Serving of tap water in restaurants or food establishments will be provided at
    request of customer.
  • Withdrawal of large amounts of water from any community water system will require prior approval. This will keep the water department informed of
anticipated drawdown levels for any water storage tank.
