Project Description: The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians tribal council recently approved the construction of an 18-hole resort golf facility on tribally owned property that is in close proximity to the existing Harrah’s Cherokee Hotel & Casino. The golf course will be a high-end daily fee course open to the public, including local residents, Great Smoky Mountain visitors, and guests of the Harrah’s Cherokee Hotel & Casino.
Project Goals and Objectives: The project is slated to accomplish a number of development goals.
- To compliment and enhance existing tribal amenities and visitor cultural destinations
- To meet current and future development goals for the tribe
- To provide a positive economic impact for the tribe, local businesses and local community
- To provide a first-class facility for guests visiting the Cherokee area and to provide the opportunity for guests to extend their stay
- To capture additional market share from tourist groups, particularly cultural heritage and outdoor recreation travelers visiting the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Blue Ridge Parkway
- To provide a high quality golfing experience for tribal members and local residents
- Serve as life-long resource for the Cherokee community youth
- To provide additional career and employment opportunities for tribal members
- To provide affordable mixed-use real estate housing for tribal members - including single-family, multi-family, town homes, and garden apartments
- Receive Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program Certification (ACSP). ACSP is an award winning education and certification program that helps golf courses protect the environment and preserve the natural heritage of the game
